Contact A Family is a nationwide charity that provides information, advice and support. They have a free telephone helpline which offers advice around education and health issues and  benefits information.

They also run workshops and events for parents covering topics such as welfare and benefit reforms, challenging behaviour, sleep problems, transition onto adult services.

National Deaf Children’s Society         http://www.ndcs.org.uk/

A large national charity supporting families of deaf children from birth-25. They have a free telephone helpline, a YouTube channel and free membership which then gives access to their full range of services that includes a wealth of online information for example on financial support, audiology, education and technology. The main website also has a large parent forum.

Northeast Autism                                   http://www.ne-as.org.uk/

Part of a large nationwide organisation- the range of services includes schools, residential and short break care, adult care services, family support, outreach work

Disability North                                      http://www.disabilitynorth.org.uk/

A user led charity which promotes independence, inclusion and choice for people with disabilities and older people which aims to support disabled and older people, their families and carers.

They can give information and advice on equipment, benefits and Direct Payments

Northeast Special Needs Network        http://www.nsnn.org.uk/

NSNN is a parent led charity. Their staff offer individualised support to families with disabled children, from birth to age 25. They also support families with young people through their transition into adult services, as well as offering advocacy work, organising workshops and courses.
