Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 26th April 2024

Welcome to Percy Hedley School's Family Liaison Blog!

We seem to be back into the swing of things at school. Summer term, when the weather improves allows classes to get out more. This week, many of our KS4 and Post 16 students visited a careers fair in North Shields. The metro pass, funded by FoPHS came in handy.

Request for your junk!

Laurie, one of our teachers has asked if you could save and send in items she could use for junk modelling. This includes plastic containers, boxes, egg cartons, tube containers (apparently Pringles ones are great), used coffee pods. If you could send them into Class 6LA thank you.

School Photos:

On Monday the ELTBA pathway have their school photos. These are: 2RC, 2HR/SH, 2LL/KH, 3HB/HT, 3RM and 3TW.

Engagement pathway will be Monday 13th May and Accreditation pathway (KS4 & Post 16) on Monday 20th May.

Online Safety

The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading “Parent and carers area”, then “online safety” from the dropdown menu. Or access the Online Safety Blogs directly under the News dropdown menu.

This week’s online safety blog is on Sextortion, was in the recent news and so parents need to be aware of it. News article gives information about children taking their own lives because of online blackmail.

You can find the link to this, and previous weekly online blogs here:

Information: What happens at Post 16?

This is something I am often asked about or discuss with parents/carers. There are guides on websites including MENCAP and Contact-for families of disabled children.

Pass it on Parents Newcastle

If you haven’t already heard of this group and live in Newcastle it may be of interest. Funded by Newcastle City Council, it is for Newcastle families. They provide support groups, coffee mornings and assistance with all manner of things SEN related. See poster for upcoming parent meet ups where you can find out what support they can offer via the Family Advice and Support Team (FAST).

Activities: Paddlepod

I was reminded of this, speaking to a parent this week. Her son enjoys these sessions as the pool is warmer too. There are pools at Killingworth, Shiremoor and Whitley Bay.

Thought for the week:

As an SEN parent myself, this resonates with me.

“Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional”.
