April 2021 – Whole School Blog

Friday 23rd April

Hi there

We have been enjoying the sun this week with lots of teachers and therapists taking learning outside.

COVID 19 update

We have no news (I think this is exciting): we have no new positive cases in school.

Please continue to use LFD testing at home – this is a valuable part of our armoury against COVID-19. If you need any help with performing the tests, please let us know and someone will help you out.

For changes to COVID-19 rules, or to find out about travel rules please use www.gov.uk as all the up to date information is held there.

Leavers Prom

We are going to do our very best to hold a Leavers Prom this year. It will be held under COVID rules and might feature a marquee this year. I know that the Prom Committee are after support from a range of providers to get an event set up – please keep an eye on the Friends of Northern Counties Facebook page for requests for help.

Have a lovely (and safe) weekend in the sunshine

Friday 16th April

Hello everyone,

It’s been lovely to see so many students back in school this week, the great weather has meant that lots of activities have taken place outside.

COVID-19 update

We’ve had no positive cases in school this week.

I’d like to say thanks to families who were able to support us to facilitate staff attending appointments for their second COVID-19 vaccination yesterday after appointments were rescheduled from the weekend.

Please remember that your child should not attend school if they or anyone in the household has COVID-19 symptoms or a positive COVID-19 test result. All LFD positive test results must now be followed up with a PCR test to be taken within 2 days.

Innowalk

With the support of the fantastic on-site NHS Physiotherapy team, some of our children have been trialling an amazing piece of kit called an Innowalk. When in this   machine the children can weight-bear and the machine β€˜walks’ for them. This supports so many positive physical attributes including promoting good digestive, breathing and musculo-skeleto systems.

We would love to buy an Innowalk (or 2 as there are 2 sizes) for school – they are very expensive, so watch this space for a  fundraising launch soon…

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Friday 9th April

Hi there

I hope you are all enjoying a great holiday. We are looking forward to seeing all the students again on Monday 12th April.

I sent out an email to all families last week as we have significant staffing shortages on the afternoon of Thursday 15th April. This is due to changes to the COVID-19 vaccination roll out. Many of our staff had their second vaccination booked for the weekend of 17th – 18th April, however these appointments have all been changed by Collaborative Newcastle who are running the programme and for many staff this means their appointments have been moved to the 15th.

In line with Local Authority guidance, I want to facilitate all staff members who wish to get vaccinated to be able to do so but this will mean asking some students to leave site after dinner that day. I will be in touch with all affected families as soon as I have the full staffing picture.

I have had no positive COVID-19 cases reported to me over the holidays, so we are cautiously looking forward to being able to undertake a wider variety of lessons during the summer term.

Please remember that your child should not attend school if they or anyone in the household has COVID-19 symptoms or a positive COVID-19 test result. All LFD positive test results must now be followed up with a PCR test to be taken within 2 days.

If this affects your child or someone else in the household, please let us know using the email: closure.ncs@percyhedley.org.uk

Take care, stay safe
